The painting exhibition “Labie vārdi” shows the work of three artists – Anita Kalniņa, Linda Zīvere and Māris Upzars – who look in painting for a reflection of kindness and harmony. The abstract oil paintings become a space in which a positive message reveals itself not only in the interplay of colours but also in the silence between brushstrokes and fields of colour – like invisible yet deeply rooted kind words that speak to the viewer. Art, like words, is able to make light, peace and hope, and to form a bond between the artist and the world.
About the artist
Anita Kalniņa
In her work the painter Anita Kalniņa masterfully opens to us a world of true, fine and serious feeling, one that permits no compromise with conscience.

Māris Upzars
Māris Upzars is a painter of the middle generation who has worked consistently in abstract painting for many years. He holds that painting is one of the ways of searching for Truth, and that the language of colour is fit for speaking in it about the mysteries of human existence. Māris is convinced that the absence of recognisable visual motifs or objects in a painting has to be made up for by content that is particularly deeply lived, thought through and felt. Perhaps that is why his works can be called autobiographical.

Linda Zīvere
“For many years Linda Zīvere has worked persistently in the field of abstract painting. She does not set out to entertain the viewers of her work with attractive compositions, but offers paintings suffused with seriousness and silence, which tend to reward a sensitive viewer with an experience of tenderness and presence”, says the curator Māris Upzars. Linda Zīvere currently lives in Copenhagen, Denmark, yet she ties her own future and her children's to Latvia.
