Linda Zīvere
“For many years Linda Zīvere has worked persistently in the field of abstract painting. She does not set out to entertain the viewers of her work with attractive compositions, but offers paintings suffused with seriousness and silence, which tend to reward a sensitive viewer with an experience of tenderness and presence”, says the curator Māris Upzars. Linda Zīvere currently lives in Copenhagen, Denmark, yet she ties her own future and her children's to Latvia.
In her work the artist takes up questions of a person's inner world and their bearing on the order of the Universe. Māris Upzars likes to compare the impression made by Linda Zīvere's work to the sense of unbroken prayer that medieval chant creates. But her large-format paintings can also hold a great inner tension and unrest, which more than once has filled the whole space of a sizeable exhibition: the painted forms can recall the splashes or eruptions of enormous brushes, or perhaps the descent of mysterious events of sky or earth ( of script or sign as well ) upon this place or this time
The painter Linda Zīvere graduated from the Textile Art Department of the Riga School of Applied Arts (1987) and from the Monumental Painting master studio of the Art Academy of Latvia (1996), though for her first four years at the Academy she studied in the Textile Art Department. Her teachers were Professors Rūdolfs Heimrāts, Indulis Zariņš and Aleksejs Naumovs.
