“Sometimes I think how good it is that everything runs its course, that everything settles into its own rhythm and its own order. Some of it we understand; much of it we do not.
What is around us is like an abandoned garden that goes on living its life though the gardener has left. Everything keeps growing and taking shape; a life of its own, a mysterious one, comes into being in the garden. And it only seems that there is chaos in these garden jungles. Of course, everything here has been left to its own devices…
My paintings are about that part of the day and of time which is simply itself, about what is there, natural, accidental, running wild — about all of it. With my own feeling, my own understanding, my own way of seeing, of course…
Views of nature around us.” — Madara Gulbis
About the artist

Madara Gulbis
My painting is an imitation of nature, a mimicking of nature, but not a copying of it. Everything has been watched, felt and understood in nature – as if a fragment of some particular moment, some view, one sensation. By this I mean nature, the environment, all that is around us every day. The environment in which our lives take place.
