“Painting, for me, is the sustaining of life, my own blood circulation. I came to this cycle of paintings gradually, working systematically over two years. First came a line, then a second, and another, and another, and a rhythm and a system took shape. New painterly discoveries and conclusions followed – everything is to be found in nature and in a human being, everything is bound together in the great Cosmic whole and in a small flower. Work began on the deliberate elaboration of the rhythms of lines and on layers of tone that make depth present. The works seemed to grow their own venation.

This systematic venation is met with everywhere in nature – in an ordinary blade of grass, in the branching crowns of mighty trees, in the high-summer harmony of Latvia's fields and meadows, in the bends of roads and the unceasing flow of rivers. In a human being the venation of the circulatory system, where even the smallest capillary has its own part to play, keeps the function of life going.”
