In the exhibition “Māksla dzīvot” the artists turn to one of the most difficult and at the same time most fragile of questions – how to live. Not how to survive, but how truly to live, aware both of one's strength and of one's vulnerability, and of the longing for meaning and for joy. The exhibition opens a space for thinking about how we shape our lives: sometimes with force and a clear intention, at other times giving way to a current that carries us where we have not yet been able to dream.
In the work of these professional artists of the middle generation the layers of a lived life come to light – the cracks where wisdom dwells and the pockets of light where a childlike joy has been kept. These works speak of the ability to keep a lightness even when life becomes difficult, and of the courage not to lose one's inner child without stepping away from the reality of an adult.
Here life is seen as unceasing movement, as a play between the serious and the light, between joy and discipline, between reality and what is still only coming into being in us.
Taking part in the exhibition: Arturs Akopjans, Anita Kalniņa, Laima Puntule, Daiga Krūze, Dita Lūse, Madara Neikena, Madara Gulbis, Kristīne Kligina, Māris Upzars, Jānis Maļeckis, Otto Zitmanis, Raimo Lielbriedis.
Each artist's painterly hand brings a different view of life into the exhibition — as an experience that is never finished. In their paintings life appears as a many-layered process — accumulated experience, doubts, convictions and hopes that over time shape an inner landscape.
