The strange course of the world in recent years keeps bringing new problems and tragedies to light. A time in which the capacity for communication slowly disappears and we lose more and more of our shared humanity, in which the wish to destroy and to take away is far greater than the wish to give and to keep — not only in a social context but in each person's individual, spiritual one.
When the ordinary troubles have not gone either, nor the discord in society and in families – it is impossible to hold back the wish to close the door, to be free of all of it for a moment, if only in the imagination.
About the artist
Otto Zitmanis
The painting of Otto Zitmanis is saturated with movement and emotional tension — it is rooted in the expressionist tradition, where the figure becomes a fragile and at the same time dramatic bearer of a person's inner world. In the paintings a tension of relationship opens between one or several figures, in whom intense experience, unspoken fear, longing, love, aggression and sorrow are concentrated.
