The exhibition “ATMIŅU FAKTŪRAS” is something like the artist's dialogue with her forebears. Learning about one's family and coming to know where one belongs is an essential ground of a person's identity. But it is not always possible to obtain precise information about that belonging. Where answers cannot be found, the artist proposes building a new in-between space, one grounded in artistic practice. By making myths of her own, she renders the presence of her family “tangible” through works of art.
Using a range of artistic methods, the artist lives through the history of her family, halting a time she has never experienced but has conjured up in the imagination. Living a subconscious memory through events that might have happened, through an everyday life that might have been lived.
As a result the process of making is given over to emotional and psychological interpretation.
In the artist's view it is possible to live through the history of a family by way of various scenes of art, objects, places and stories handed down.
About the artist

Kristīne Kligina
In her practice Kristīne Kligina brings together painting and textile art, making a quiet, nuanced visual language centred on family memory, the sense of history's presence, and nature. She is drawn in particular to old things as symbolic intermediaries between past and present, between personal and collective experience.
